Ecological footprint

Ecological footprint is the measure of human impact on our ecosystem.

Mathis Wackernagel and William Rees developed this concept starting form the idea that to develop a sustainable way of living we have to observe the DEMAND of the Earth's population.

Human demand is compared to the Earth's ecological capacity to regenerate.

It represents the amount of biologically productive land and sea area needed to regenerate the resources a population consumes and to absorb the corresponding waste.
